99% Invisible is a radio show funded on Kickstarter by Roman Mars in which he discusses and explores the art of design, composition and architecture.
Pledgers on kickstarter were able to pledge $15 up to $10,000 and raised $170,477 which exceeded the goal of $42,000. Which proves this show became a huge success as it is clear that they have an audience for it. The show often has help and involvement from the audience as they would be involved and made to feel as if they were helping produce the show. In order to generate more revenue, they created march from posters to t-shirts which fans of the show could purchase.
The music and the way that the hosts speak is very tranquil and makes the show relaxing and easy to listen to. This will appeal to people as most people don’t want to have to use their brain too much when they listen to radio shows, so making it relaxed allows the listener to feel good about it.
This show is comparable to Archispeak, a podcast about architecture and design. They also involve audiences as they can ring in and be apart of the show and discuss things with the hosts. Although this was not started on kickstarter, they have the same kind of premise and ideas.
