Fighting Talk is a radio sports panel show on Radio 5 Live at 11am, in which they get listeners to phone in and celebrities to answer questions about sport. Radio 5 Live is designed to ‘inform, entertain and involve. The service should appeal to news and sports fans of all ages and from all ethnic backgrounds and areas across the UK.’
This particular show had guests such as Iain Sterling, who is a comedian and voice over artist on the ITV2 show Love Island. He was perhaps asked to be on due to his love of sports and the fact that he appeals to the younger generation who watch love island, so they may bring in a younger range of listeners.
It is perhaps on at 11am every Saturday in order to rake in the most listeners as they are mostly likely driving somewhere, going about their day or getting ready for the day and put the radio on in the background. I would compare it to the TV show ‘A Question of Sport’ as it is also a panel show lead by sportsmen and sports fans that supply comedy and entertainment, much like Fighting Talk.
The guests are also encourage to talk about what they want regarding sports, which shows relaxation and a non-scripted atmosphere. It makes the audience feel like they are listening to a normal conversation with friends, therefore making it more inclusive of people. Fans are also encouraged to tweet in or ring in to talk to the presenters a guests which also creates accessibility showing how relaxed it is.
